In about a month, Lefkosia is preparing to welcome the first Parkour competition in Cyprus, called Renegade In Action, by Red Point. Specifically, on 19 May, Eleftherias Square is expected to be transformed into a large parkour track where experienced and amateur athletes will compete in front of hundreds of spectators.
The first event of its kind in Cyprus, according to the organizers, aspires to bring the sport to the forefront, bringing together dozens of athletes from all cities, while strengthening alternative sports in general. It is noted that during the competition there will be different categories by age, as well as different types of events, such as time and style.
The origins of parkour can be found in the French suburbs, as part of urban culture. Since the late 1980s, when it first appeared, the sport has attracted the love of thousands of athletes all over Europe, while its expansion in Cyprus is remarkable, especially in recent years.
The 19th of May is expected to be a milestone for parkour in Cyprus in a festive event not only for the sport, but also for Lefkosia as a whole. For any news about the programme and the parallel events, those interested can also keep up to date via Instagram, Facebook and TikTok of the competition.
